F.A.Q.’s
What is the estimate process?
We will arrange for a free at home consultation to discuss your vision and obtain rough measurements to provide you with a proposal. In some instances, we may be able to offer you a price on the spot, other projects may require 2-3 days.
What is the finish on the railings?
All of our steel railings are primed and then painted in the shop. Most of our installations require us to do on site paint touchups after the installation is completed.
For an additional cost Powder coating is an option. Powder coating offers a more durable long lasting finish. Powder coating is not available for long railings that require field welding to obtain the continuous look.
What is the lead time for railings to be completed from the time it is ordered?
It depends on the size of the project and the current backlog.
Small railing jobs can be completed within 2-3 weeks while larger projects may require 3-5 weeks.
When are railings required based on the Ct building code?
Connecticut code requires a guardrail when the fall hazard is 30” High or more. A guardrail is a railing that has balusters and no spacing larger than a 4” opening. Handrails are required on not less than one side of each flight of stairs with 4 or more risers.
A handrail does not need balusters, only a rail to hold on to.
Do you do cable railings?
Yes, we do cable railings for interior and exterior applications.
Do you make railings from aluminum?
We can use aluminum, but we don’t use it often. Aluminum offers much less possibility for corrosion but does not offer the same strength. Aluminum does not hold paint well. It is usually necessary to powder coat aluminum to make sure the paint adheres well. Aluminum can not be field welded easily and therefore makes it hard to accomplish long runs of railing that look continuous.
do you install railings in the winter?
Railings can be done in the winter but can not be installed in temperatures less than 40 degrees
because the epoxy used to set the rails does not cure well in cold temperatures.
How are the railings installed?
Railings are installed by drilling a 2” round hole through the stone or concrete with a core-drill and setting the posts in 5” of epoxy cement.
Are railings customizable?
All of our railings are made custom and can be adapted to suit most situations or design ideas.
What is the difference between iron and steel?
The main difference between iron and steel is iron is a naturally occurring element, while steel is an alloy of iron and carbon that is man-made. Our railings are made of steel.
Do you design steel for home renovations?
We do not design what steel is needed for home renovations. An architect or engineer that is contracted by the client will design what steel sizes are needed to accomplish the goals.
Stamford Forge fabricates and installs what is designed.
Do you have a showroom?
Because all of our work is custom, we are unable to have a showroom that can possibly show all the options available. We reference customers to our website for ideas and inspiration.
